Recall (“Recall,” “we,” “our,” or “us”) respects your privacy and is committed to protecting your information.
Recall is designed with a privacy-first approach. Your stories, notes, contact information, reflections, and personal memories are primarily stored locally on your device and, if enabled by you, within your personal iCloud account using Apple CloudKit.
We do not store your private journal content on servers we operate. Anonymous usage analytics and voluntary feedback are stored separately in our Apple CloudKit container and are described in Sections 7 and 8 below.
This Privacy Policy explains how Recall handles information when you use the app and its related features.
1. Information You Create and Store
Recall allows you to create and manage personal information including:
- stories and reflections
- talking points
- notes and memories
- contact profiles
- personal details about people you know
- tags, emotions, and templates
- bookmarked stories
- event reflections
- shared experiences linked to contacts
- photos you attach to stories or contact profiles
This content is stored locally on your device and, if enabled, synchronised securely through your personal Apple iCloud account.
We do not access, read, or store this content on servers we operate.
2. Calendar Access
Recall may request access to your calendar events to provide features such as:
- upcoming event preparation
- attendee talking point suggestions
- reflection suggestions for past events
- contextual journaling assistance
Calendar information is processed locally on your device.
We do not upload your calendar events to servers we operate.
3. Contacts Access
Recall may request access to your contacts to help you:
- import contacts into Recall
- organise talking points
- associate stories with people
- improve relationship tracking features
Contacts are only imported when you choose to do so.
Imported contact information remains stored locally on your device and within your personal iCloud account if synchronisation is enabled. We do not collect or store your contacts on servers we operate.
4. Location Information
Recall may request location access to:
- suggest locations
- display maps
- improve event context and journaling experiences
Location information is processed locally on your device wherever possible.
We do not use location information for advertising or tracking purposes.
5. Notifications
Recall may send limited notifications related to:
- reflection reminders
- meaningful calendar moments
- journaling prompts
Notifications are designed to be minimal and non-intrusive.
You can manage notification permissions through your device settings.
6. Apple Intelligence Features
Recall may use on-device Apple Intelligence capabilities provided by Apple to assist with features such as:
- generating story titles
- suggesting tags
- suggesting follow-up talking points
These features rely on Apple-provided systems and may be subject to Apple’s own privacy policies and device capabilities.
We do not use your private content to train our own AI models.
7. Anonymous Usage Analytics
If you leave Share Anonymous Analytics enabled in Settings (on by default), Recall collects anonymous usage information to understand how features are used and to improve the app. This may include:
- which features are used (for example, opening the story editor or viewing relationship insights)
- coarse session duration ranges
- subscription-related events such as whether a paywall was shown or a plan was purchased (product identifier only)
- app version and operating system version
- device type (phone, tablet, or Mac) and platform (iOS or macOS)
- calendar day only for event timing (no time of day)
This data does not include your stories, notes, talking points, contact details, calendar events, search queries, photos, precise location, or other personally identifying information.
Anonymous usage data is sent to the CloudKit public database associated with our app container. It is not combined with your private journal content. We do not use this data for advertising, cross-app tracking, or marketing profiles.
You can disable anonymous usage analytics at any time in Settings → Share Anonymous Analytics. When disabled, no new analytics events are recorded or sent.
8. Feedback and Support
In-app feedback. You may optionally submit feedback (bug reports, feature requests, or general comments) from Settings. Submissions include the category you select, your message, app version, operating system version, device type, platform, and submission time. Feedback is intended to be anonymous and does not automatically include your name, email address, or journal content. Please avoid including sensitive personal information in your message. Submissions are stored in our CloudKit public database so we can review and improve Recall.
Email support. You may also contact us at support@midnyttorigin.com using your device’s mail app. Messages are sent through your email provider, not through Recall’s own servers. Any identifying information in email support is provided by you through your email account.
We do not use feedback or support communications for advertising or sell them to third parties.
9. Performance Diagnostics
On iOS, Recall uses Apple’s MetricKit to receive app performance and diagnostic information, such as launch times, memory usage, hang rates, and crash-related data. This information is processed through Apple’s systems and made available to us through Apple’s developer tools (such as Xcode Organizer). It does not include the content of your stories, notes, or contact details.
Diagnostic data is used solely to improve app quality, reliability, and performance.
10. iCloud, Apple Services, and Subscriptions
When iCloud is enabled on your device and Recall is allowed to use iCloud, your journal data is stored within your personal Apple iCloud account using CloudKit. Your use of iCloud is subject to Apple’s own terms and privacy policies.
You can turn off iCloud synchronisation for Recall in your device settings without uninstalling the app:
- iPhone or iPad: Settings → [your name] → iCloud → Saved to iCloud → Recall → off
- Mac: System Settings → Apple Account → iCloud → Saved to iCloud → Recall → off
When iCloud is disabled for Recall, your journal content remains on your device but is not synchronised across your other devices. Anonymous usage analytics and voluntary feedback may still use CloudKit separately, as described in Sections 7 and 8.
Recall also relies on Apple services for:
- iCloud / CloudKit— synchronisation of your private journal data, and storage of anonymous usage analytics and voluntary feedback as described above
- MetricKit— app performance diagnostics (see Section 9)
- App Store / StoreKit— Recall Premium subscriptions; payment information is processed by Apple and we do not receive your payment card or bank account details
We do not use third-party analytics, advertising, or crash-reporting services.
11. Data Sharing
We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information.
We do not share your stories, notes, memories, contacts, calendar data, or private content with advertisers or data brokers.
Because your journal content is stored locally and within your personal iCloud account, we do not have access to it ourselves. Anonymous usage analytics and voluntary feedback are stored in our CloudKit container as described in Sections 7 and 8 and are not shared with third parties for their own purposes.
12. Data Retention
Recall does not retain copies of your personal journal content on servers we operate. Your content remains stored on your device and within your personal iCloud account if enabled.
Anonymous usage analytics and voluntary feedback may be retained for a reasonable period to maintain and improve the app. You can stop further analytics collection at any time by disabling Share Anonymous Analytics in Settings.
13. Your Control and Choices
You remain in control of your information. You may:
- disable Share Anonymous Analytics in Settings
- choose whether to submit in-app feedback
- contact support by email only when you choose to do so
- disable calendar access
- disable contacts access
- disable location access
- disable notifications
- disable iCloud synchronisation for Recall in your device’s iCloud settings (see Section 10)
- delete content within the app
- remove app data by deleting the app & data stored in your iCloud account
- manage permissions through your device settings
14. Age Rating and Children's Privacy
Recall has a global age rating of 4+ and is suitable for a general audience aged 4 and over.
Parents and guardians are responsible for supervising a child’s use of the app and for managing device permissions, iCloud accounts, and in-app settings (including Share Anonymous Analytics).
We do not knowingly collect personal information from children beyond the anonymous usage analytics and optional feedback described in this policy. Where applicable law requires parental consent before collecting information from children, we rely on parents and guardians to provide that supervision and to configure the app accordingly.
15. International Users
Recall may be used internationally. Anonymous usage analytics, feedback, and diagnostic information may be processed on Apple infrastructure in jurisdictions outside your country, subject to applicable privacy protections.
16. Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect product updates, legal requirements, or operational changes.
Updated versions will include a revised Effective Date.

Simple Privacy Commitment
Recall is built around a simple principle:
Your memories belong to you.
Your stories, reflections, contacts, and personal information stay on your device and in your personal iCloud account, not on servers we operate. Anonymous usage analytics and voluntary feedback are collected separately to help us improve the app — and you can turn analytics off at any time.
